RACINE, Wis. – Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling unveiled on Thursday, Oct. 28 the results of an extensive investigation regarding possible election law violations throughout Racine County and Wisconsin.

“Election statute was in fact not just broken, but shattered by members of the Wisconsin Elections Commission,” said Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling says his office received a complaint from a relative of a nursing home resident who died in October who was suffering severe cognitive difficulties – and yet still voted via absentee ballot in the 2020 election.

The person lived at the Ridgewood Care Facility.

Investigator Sgt. Michael Luell investigated the issue and found that the Ridgewood Care Facility had an unusual surge in voting activity in 2020 – with more than 40 people voting, when normally only roughly ten people did.

Luell then contacted the families and asked if they had any cognitive difficulties. Seven people said they didn’t have the cognitive ability to vote.

This is a developing story.
